Abstract

Four carriages are used, one at each corner, running along piers at either side of the vehicle. Four pairs of double wheels (2) carry each laterally moving sliding carriage (4), the top member of which supports a hydraulic jack (6). The jack pushes against a shaft (8) coupled to a triangular shaped frame (11, 12, 13) at the lower end of which is a hook device (18, 19) which engages with a location on the container (17). The ends of the shaft (8) are guided and supported by angled bearing tracks. The operating levers of the jacks are arranged so that two lifting carriages can be operated by one operator, lifting one end of the container at a time.
