Abstract
927,972. Stripping cables; detecting the pressure of current and voltage. I SHIMKIN. Oct. 30, 1961 [Nov. 1, 1960], No. 38726/61. Classes 36 and 37. [Also in Group XXIII] In a combination tool for detecting voltages, cutting thin wire and stripping insulation comprising one or more voltage detecting gas discharge lamps 3, 13 housed in a hollow insulating handle, (Group XXIII) at least two terminals are provided on the handle one of the terminals being an external touch contact as at 6 and the other being a screwdriver 7b or probe prong protruding from the handle and having a laterally projecting plate 8 with a sharp edge 8a. The plate 8 is provided with a closed aperture 9 widened at one end for stripping insulation from wire, the aperture 9 having edges thinner than the main part of the plate. In a modification a plate having an open ended aperture is provided. A metal contact plug 18 is inserted in the handle to prevent displacement of the lamps 3, 13 and high ohmic resistance 4. The end of the screwdriver 7 is housed in the handle, a stop 7d preventing complete removal. The screwdriver is biased outwardly by a spring 19 which contacts the plug 18. The lamp 3 is of higher voltage than the lamp 13 the arrangement being such that the upper contact 6 introduces both lamps into circuit whereas a lower contact 6a introduces only the lamp 3 into circuit. In a modification only one neon lamp is provided.
