Abstract

925,784. Delivery sheets. TIME Inc. Jan. 30, 1962 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 3490/62. Class 100 (1). Signatures 11 are fed in an overlapping stream, folded edge leading, by a pair of belts 12a, 12b and rollers 17a, 17b into a receiver formed by vertical bars 21. Guide plates 13a, 13b and guide fingers 15a, 15b co-operate to bend the signatures downwards at their side edges as they leave the belts 12a, 12b. The bent signatures fall on to a platform 16 composed of a series of parallel fingers 18a-18f which are inclined and together form an arched support for the signatures. The platform is inclined so that its lower end supports the folded edges of the signatures. The fingers 18a-18f are carried on vertical supports 22 mounted on a plate 23 which is controlled by a pneumatic cylinder 25 to effect lowering of the platform 16 as a pile of signatures is built thereon. When the pile is complete the platform is lowered further so that the pile is deposited on travelling belts 35 and carried away. The bars 21 may be given a lateral jogging movement.
