918,709. Delivering sheets. CLARKE, W. F., and THRISSELL ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 6, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 31153/60. Class 100 (1). Apparatus for stacking cardboard or like blanks in counted piles comprises feeding rollers 1, 2 arranged to receive a blank 3 from a machine, e.g. a printing, cutting and creasing machine, and accelerate it so as to separate it from the following blank and deliver it to a conveyer 8, a device associated with the conveyer for checking the forward movement of the blank, the conveyer travelling at such a speed that the blanks stack thereon in overlapping relationship, and a stop arm or like device 10 arranged to move down on to the stacked pile and prevent further movement thereof, those blanks beyond the stop arm moving onwards as a stacked pile to a further conveyer 12. The conveyer 12 moves more slowly than the conveyer 8, so that the piles thereon are more upright. The arm 10 is controlled by a cam and is provided with a spring steel blade which presses on the top of the pile. The checking device comprises a freely rotating roller 4 sup. ported on an arm 6 pivoted at 7 and a roller 5 supporting the conveyer band 8. The arm 10 first moves down rapidly to press on the pile and then moves slightly upwards to allow the blanks in front to proceed.
