Abstract

1,254,784. Feeding sheets. XEROX CORP. 3 March, 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 11210/69. Heading B8R. Sheets stacked on a table 220 are separated by friction rollers 201 and forwarded by drive rollers 202. To prevent double feed there are provided friction rollers 203 rotating in a direction opposite to rollers 202 so that additional sheets separated are returned to the pile. To permit easy return of these sheets rollers 201 are temporarily lifted clear of the stack by a solenoid 250 which pivots kicker roller carriage 252 about shaft 259. When the leading edge of a separated sheet is detected by photodiode 206 the rotation of feed rollers 202 is stopped and rollers 201 are lifted from the stack. During the following interval rollers 203 return additional sheets to the stack. Following this operation rollers 201 are caused to engage the trailing edge of the separated sheet and assist rollers 202 to feed the sheet to drive rollers 204, 205 which forward the sheet around a curved guide to a further photo-diode 310 where it is held until required by a machine, e.g. an image transceiver. Adjustable guides 221, 222 assist alignment of the stack.
