Abstract
1402374 Feeding and delivering sheets BURROUGHS CORP 19 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 29095/73 Heading B8R A unitary feeding and stacking attachment for an accounting or other sheet-handling machine comprises a supply hopper 41, Fig. 1, from which documents piled on edge are fed one by one by rollers on shafts 121, 125 along guides 47 to and through the throat 37 of the machine, and after processing are passed along guides 49 and by rollers on shafts 151, 149 into a receptacle 43. Alternatively, a document is delivered to a hold station at the level of the shafts 151, 149, returned to the machine for further processing, and then delivered to the receptacle. In response to signals from the machine, a reversible motor 87 is driven in one direction while a clutch control solenoid 106, Fig. 3, is energized, to feed a document from the hopper, in the opposite direction for a shorter or longer time to deliver a document to the hold station or to the receptacle, and in the first direction without energization of the solenoid to return a document from the hold station to the machine. The hopper and receptacle are formed of wire-like members and divided by a pivoted divider 45 which moves counter-clockwise as documents are fed from the hopper and to the receptacle to enlarge the latter while diminishing the former. To accommodate documents of different widths, an adjustable end plate is provided, being inserted into selected grooves in lateral support shafts 59, 63, 69. To prevent double feed, the lower feed rollers co-operate with adjustable scrub rollers 138 defining a gap sufficient for one document, the rollers 137 rotating so as to urge a second document upwards.
