Abstract

1,080,045. Sheet folding apparatus. MIEHLE GOSS DEXTER Inc. Aug. 5,1965 [Oct., 13, 1964], No. 33618/65. Heading B6H. A printing machine or a buckle folding machine 1, in which sheets 2 are prefolded is associated with a portable blade folding machine into which the prefolded sheets are fed to receive further transverse folds. The portable blade folding machine comprises two horizontal belt conveyers 3, 6 moving in opposite directions, and spaced from one another at the roller ends 4, 7 respectively, to receive a sheet deflector 5, which deflects the oncoming sheet between a pair of folding rollers 8, 9 rotatable about vertical axes and a folding blade 10, whereby the sheet is aligned against an arrester 11. The preceding machine, e.g. folding machine 1 controls the operating cycle of the portable blade folding machine and causes the folding blade 10 to force the prefolded sheet 2 into the nip of folding rollers 8, 9. The subsequently folded sheet is discharged on to the stacking support 12 and guide thereon by guides 13, 14, 15. A pusher 16, Fig. 3 (not shown) displaces the transversely folded sheets horizontally out of the folding zone. If the sheets 2 are to be folded transversely in a direction opposite to that above the portable machine is turned about so that the folding blade 10 is adjacent the preceding machine, Fig. 2 (not shown). The portable unit may be used on its own if a sheet conveying mechanism is externally associated with it.
