Abstract

924,610. Firearms; pyrotechnic missiles; grenades. H. KLOSTERMANN, [trading as R. RINKER [Firm of]]. Oct. 13, 1960 [Feb. 26, 1960; April 14, 1960], No. 35030/60. Classes 9 (1), 9 (2), 92 and 119. A firearm for projecting signal flares, smoke and explosive charges is provided with a firing device comprising a tubular member 4, Fig. 1, supported within a cylindrical housing 1 by means of two collar-like flanges 3, the member 4 containing at one end a spring-urged striker 5 and at the other end a screwed-in percussion cap carrier 7 with a detonator cap 8. A laterally displaceable slider 11 is provided with a key-hole shaped aperture 13 which in its narrow part engages in an annular groove 9 in the striker when in its cocked state, lateral movement of the slider 11 permitting the striker 5 to pass through the widened portion of the aperture 13 to fire the cap 8. The slider 11 is held against movement by a safety device comprising a leaf spring 14 rotatably mounted by means of a rivet 15 on the bottom 10 of the housing 1 and having a projection 16 engaging in a depression or an aperture 17 of the slider. A wire ring 18 provided with a bent-up portion 21 is secured to the leaf-spring 14 to affect movement thereof. For firing an explosive projectile, a firing tube 30, Fig. 4, is secured to the housing 1 by means of a ring 31 provided with a tapped bore 32 into which a tube 33 adapted to receive a propelling charge 34 is screwed; the tube 33 has an internal thread 35 for screwing it on an externally threaded projecting portion of the member 4 of the firing device. The propelling charge 34 acts on a sheet metal covered explosive charge 37 provided with an axial aperture 36 lined with a stepped tube. Arranged in this tube is a timedelay fuze 38 and a detonating cap 39, the free end of the tube being closed by a screw 40, and packing rings 41, 42 being provided to prevent the explosive charge being impaired by dampness. A packing ring 43 is also provided between the ring 31 and housing 1. A fluted sleeve 44 of rubber covers the firing tube 30. Fig. 5 shows a flare composition 46 arranged in the firing tube 30 which in this case is secured directly by its ring 31 to the member 4. A container 47 holds a propelling charge 34<SP>1</SP> adjoined by a time-delay set 381 and the flare composition 46 housed in a casing 48, spacers 49 of cork or felt being arranged between individual elements. Packing discs 41, 42 are provided together with a plastic cap 50. The sleeve 44 and/or the housing 1 is provided with colours corresponding to the colour of the flare composition.
