[Also in Group XXV] A curtain wall comprises panels 3, 4 and 13, Fig. 3, arranged between posts 1 and cross-bars 2, each composed of a first element 6 of hollow rectangular crosssection with grooves 6a on the sides extending normally to the plane of the wall and with a longitudinally extending tongue 7 projecting normally from the side facing outwardly of the wall and a second element 8 of channel-section fitting over the tongue 7, the panels 3, 4 and 13 being secured in the grooves 6a and/or in spaces provided between the channel-sectioned elements 8 and the elements 6. The channelsectioned elements 8 contain springs 11 which engage notches in the tongues 7 to secure the element 8 over the tongues 7. The panels secured in the spaces between the channel-sectioned elements 8 and the elements 6 are held by pins 10 passing through the tongues 7. The joints between the posts and crossbars are made by means of plugs 27, Fig. 7, which enter the ends of the cross-bars 2 and which are secured by tongues 27 which engage the grooves 6a in the posts 1 and by bolts 28. In another arrangement the joints between the posts and cross-bars are made by means of plugs 33 or 39, Fig. 9, secured to the respective members at locations at which the ribs forming the grooves 6a have been cut-away, the plugs being arranged to enter the ends of the posts and cross-bars. The plug 39 is used in conjunction with a bracket 40 located in a dovetail groove in the post and cross-bar and attached to the cross-bar by means of a screw 41. The posts are attached to the floor 25 or on to a metal girder by elements 21 passing through the element and receiving bolts 22 whose heads are housed in a hollow part 23 secured to the floor 25 or girder. The panels may comprise units such as fixed glazing 3 or centre hung horizontally pivoted sash units 4. The pivots of a sash unit may comprise cylindrical members carried by the sash unit and rotatable in cylindrical bearings 46, Fig. 12, fixed into the posts, spring-loaded frictional plungers 55, 56 being carried by the cylindrical members so as to engage the bearings 46 to produce a braking effect. The panels may also comprise glazing units arranged to slide horizontally by means of rollers 19 on runways 20, Fig. 5, or glazing units arranged to slide vertically in grooves in the posts as in Fig. 13, which units comprise panes 67 held by an inner framework 68 which is reversable in pivots carried by an outer framework 64. Sealing members 12 for the sashes are located within the grooves in the posts and cross-bars.
