Feb. 19, 1960 [Feb. 24, 1959], No. 6436/59 Classes 20(3) and 20(4) [Also in Group XXV] Partitioning comprises opposed face panels 1, 2, Fig. 6 connected to each other by resilient means drawing the panels towards each other and holding them against a supporting framework, the resilient means being arranged so that a face panel may be detached from its opposed face panel. In the exemplified embodiment the resilient means comprises, secured to the panel 1, a spring loaded swinging hook 53 which may be held in a cocked position by a pivoted latch 57 which is released by the engagement therewith of a fixed hook 59 on the panel 2 as the panels are initially moved one towards the other, whereby the hook 53 swings into engagement with the hook 59 and draws the panels towards one another and against the framework. The hook 59 is inclined in a manner to permit the disengagement of the hooks 53, 59 upon relative outward movement of the panels. The framework comprises rectangular core posts 4, Fig. 2, to which are secured rectangular frames formed of dumbbell sections 20 and spacers 3. The dumb-bell sections 20 extend beyond the edges of the posts 4 to define grooves to receive additional frames forming junctions or corners, such frames not being provided with dumb-bell sections along their vertical edges. The bottom and/or top horizontal frame members may be spaced from the floor or ceiling respectively, and the space so formed filled by skirting panels 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP> secured to each other by spring clips and spaced apart by a floor &c. plate 23 and by a spacer member 3 secured to the corresponding horizontal rail of the frame. The partitioning is held in place by spring-loaded jacking means 6, Fig. 3 carried by the upper ends of the core posts 4, and including a compression spring 12 which is held at a pre-set load by a pin 14 which can be removed after a screwed rod 7<SP>1</SP> and nut 8<SP>1</SP> have been adjusted to thrust a bearing plate 7 against the ceiling, so that the jack 6 bears on the ceiling with substantially the preset load of the spring 12. Cover strips 31 may cover any otherwise exposed edges of the core posts 4 and may fit in an otherwise exposed groove of a dumb-bell section used as make-up member at a corner, as in Fig. 1 (not shown).
