Abstract

1459388 Prefabricated room units MEDWAY BUILDINGS Ltd 11 Dec 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 42098/72 Heading E1A A modular room unit comprises a rigid self supporting space frame having four vertical columns arranged at the corners of a rectangle and horizontal members connecting the columns. A rectangular roof or ceiling panel and a floor panel close the top and bottom faces of the frame respectively and at least two wall panels are releasably secured to the adjacent perpendicular frame sides. All the panels lie within the envelope bounded by the exterior surfaces of the columns in plan view. Each of the columns has a sliding leg extendable downwardly and means for resisting upward movement of the leg. The panels may be of hardboard, metal, chipboard or glass fibre reinforced plastics sheets 22, 23 separated by foam plastics 24, the sheets on each side may be of different materials and the panels may have timber frames 25 secured to the framing members by nuts 31 on threaded studs welded to the framing members. The prebored panels may serve as templates for the fixing of the studs.
