Abstract
<PICT:0923574/III/1> A chemical reactor-pulverizer comprises a rotatable closed chamber (1) surrounded by a stationary closed chamber (2), heating or cooling means (16) being provided within the latter chamber. The rotatable chamber may contain particles, e.g. balls or pebbles. In the illustrated embodiment to which the above numerals relate, reservoirs 9, 10 supply reactants to the rotatable chamber through lines 7, 8. A tube 13 may be employed to remove end products, e.g. a paste may be removed by pumping-and tube 23 connected to a compressor or vacuum pump permits reactions to be conducted under pressure or vacuum. Aperture 14 also permits introduction and removal of contents. Additional heating or cooling means is provided at 18 and in an example liquid nitrogen is supplied thereto via line 19. Heating means 16 may operate electrically or by circulation of steam or liquids. Examples refer to obtaining pure products by first coating the inner surface of the rotating chamber and balls or pebbles, if used, with ice by cooling whilst rotating with water in the chamber: the water can ultimately be removed by boiling or sublimation. No specific reactions are referred to.ALSO:<PICT:0923574/IV(a)/1> In Example IV a natural rubber mix comprising smoked crepe, barium sulphate, colouring agents, paraffin wax, zinc oxide, sulphur and an unspecified antioxidant in stated proportions, is introduced into rotating chamber 3 which is strongly cooled by introducing liquid nitrogen into cooler 18 and contains pebbles. The rubber becomes very fragile and the components are finely pulverized and homogenized.
