[Also in Group XXII] The die of a stapling machine has channels 28, 30, Fig. 1, which are formed in the opposite walls and curved base of a U-shaped slot 22 in the die so that the two legs of a staple may enter the opposite straight portion of the channels and be bent towards each other as they are forced into the curved base portion for the purpose of closing the gathered neck of a bag. A die formed of two parts 50, Figs. 10 and 12, has a channel 54 extending down the face 52 and around the curved end portion of each part.
