Abstract

713,384. Strapping packages. REBICHON, (nee MEYRONNEINC), J. July 24, 1952 [Sept. 26, 1951], No. 18733/52. Class 146(2) A staple for joining the extremities of a metal strap applied to a package and for use in the formation of sticks of staples to feed strapping machines which insert the staples in the straps has an inwardly curved edge 3 at the lower part of each of the lateral walls 1a and a longitudinal groove 4 or the equivalent thereof in the outer face above the curved edge, the edge and groove being so disposed that when a plurality of staples are formed into sticks the extremity 3a of each curved edge clips into one of the grooves of the adjacent staple. The staple is reinforced by recesses 2 in the roof 1 and walls 1a. The distance between the edges 3 is slightly less than the distance between grooves 4 so that when the staples are mounted in stick form the edges 3 exert a resilient pressure in the grooves 4, thereby holding the staples together without the use of gum or wire &c. One or both faces of the grooves 4 may be replaced by a series of small punched projections.
