Abstract

1,031,420. Strips of nails. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1963 [Oct. 17, 1962], No. 40749/63. Addition to 1,017,767. Heading F2H. For use in nail-driving apparatus, nails are secured to a strip of material of some rigidity (such as fibre board 2, Figs. 1, 2, paper, cardboard, plastics material, 62, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), or metal) by at least one line 18, Figs. 1, 2, of rupturable stitches 22 or staples or resilient fingers 69, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), or 90, Fig. 12 (not shown). There is at least one line of grooves 8, 68 or 88 in which the nails are located and an inclined top edge 10 or 70 on which the nail head rides, when driven, to increase the tension on the nail securement until the latter breaks or releases. The fibre board 2 of Figs. 1, 2 may be formed with two lines of aligned grooves, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), on either side of a single line of stitches or of rupturable or releasable staples. The fingers 69 of the strip 62 of plastics material may be formed by running a heated roll across the ridges between the grooves.
