Abstract

1,017,767. Nail packs. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Oct. 25, 1962 [Oct. 27, 1961], No. 40349/62. Heading B8C. A pack of headed fasteners, such as nails, for use in automatic nailing machines comprises a strip of sheet material to which the fasteners are secured in orderly array by at least one line of rupturable stitches engaging their shanks. Driving movement of a nail causes the head to approach the line of stitches with consequent rupturing of the stitch securing it. The thread may be impregnated and adhere to the strip so that no other fasteners will be released from the strip at the same time. In one embodiment, the fasteners are secured to the strip perpendicular to the longitudinal edges thereof and with their heads against the surface of the strip but if the heads are frustoconical they may extend above the upper edge of the strip, Fig. 6 (not shown). The fasteners also may be inclined to the edges of the strip. The strip may have both longitudinal margins bent rearwardly, Fig. 8 (not shown).
