Abstract

1424541 Band clamps IDEAL CORP 27 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 14663/73 Heading E2B A band clamp comprises a buckle 14 connected to one end of the band by passing the one end of the band through a rectangular sectioned passage in the buckle 14 and bending the end 11 of the band back along the base wall of the buckle and the upper wall of the buckle has a portion 24 of reduced thickness. The portion 24 of reduced thickness may be provided between two slots 26, 27 in the upper wall. The buckle is formed from a blank folded into its rectangular sectioned shape, the base wall thereof being formed by two inwardly extending flanges an aperture 22 being formed between the flanges. The reduced thickness portion 24 is formed before the blank is folded, the blank after the portion 24 has been formed being annealed so that the ensuing folding operations cause work hardening to provide a sturdy buckle with a relatively "soft" reduced thickness portion. After the bed has been tensioned the reduced thickness portion is punched inwardly of the buckle and the material of the band is forced into the aperture 22. Alternatively the band may be held by bending the end thereof upwardly to engage the forward face of the buckle (Fig. 6, not shown).
