Abstract
1,151,172. Intra-uterine devices. STATNI VYZKUMNY USTAV TEXTILNI. 17 March, 1967 [7 April, 1966], No. 12619/67. Heading A5R. An intra-uterine contraceptive device comprising a plastics material wire blank of varying cross-section is formed (Figure 1) as a long arch part I and a shorter arch part 2 joined together to provide a planar body of closed circumference, such that the planar body may be deformed into an endless coil (Figure 2) of at least two eccentric convolutions. The side parts 3 joining ithe arch parts 1, 2 of the planar body may be slightly outwardly convex. In use the device is coiled around a finger to provide the endless coil (Figure 2) which is then fitted into the uterus using an inserter. The coil is said to expand out of its plane (Figure 7, not shown) during uterine contractions.
