Abstract

919,337. Hose connectors. DAYCO CORPORATION. Dec. 13, 1961 [Feb. 27, 1961], No. 44695/61. Class 99(1). In a vacuum cleaner hose assembly including a hose 12 having a number of electrical conductors 13, 14 incorporated therein, there is a connector at one end of the hose for providing electrical and vacuum continuity and which comprises inner and outer sleeves 31, 32 and an electrical fitting 33 interengaged between the sleeves so that any strain on the connector is absorbed by both sleeves. As shown, the sleeve 31 has an outwardly angled boss 40 formed with two pairs of lips 41, 42 and 43, 44 with transverse ridges 45, 46 therebetween defining a groove 47, and the sleeve 32 has a similarly outwardly angled hollow member 50 provided with an inwardly extending pair of lips 54 and a transverse groove, the grooves and lips respectively of the two members being, on assembly of the members, oppositely disposed to grip the fitting 33. The member 31 has rows of lugs 35 axially spaced with a helical pitch and interengaged with the wires 13, 14 when assembled on the hose with a screwing action, the free ends of the wires being attached to the wires 60, 61 of the connector 33 by means of clips 62, 63. The connector is placed in the boss 40 and the sleeve 31 is then pushed into the sleeve 32; the latter is provided with grooves 48, 49 which receive locking rings 38, 39 on the sleeve 31.
