At each cross-over point of perpendicular arrays of contact strips 14, 20 in a cross-bar distributer, a plug 10 projecting from a strip 14 lies within a socket 11 of a strip 20. Each strip 14 is retained in a channel-shaped resilient insulating bar 12 by shoulders 16, and the strips 20 are in the shape of waves whose troughs are retained around the bases of the bars 12 by inter-engaging recesses 21 and projections 22. In a modification, the sockets 11 are hemicylindrical and apertures in the strips 20 engage the projections 22. The bars 12 may be bolted together or held in a frame. The pairs of contacts 10, 11 are selectively linked by connectors, Fig. 7, each comprising an inner socket 46 and an outer resilient plug 49, linked by a diode 59 and respectively retained on an insulating sleeve 40 by a groove, which engages a rib 44 on the sleeve, and by hooks 52, 53, the sleeve 40 being screwed into a rear sleeve. An alternative form of linking connector (Fig. 5, not shown) comprises a split tubular contact (30) with a rear insulating sleeve (31) and having two pairs of opposed tongues (34, 35), respectively inwardly and outwardly biased for grippin a plug 10 and for engaging in a socket 11.
