Abstract

918,526. Brushes. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS Ltd. May 25, 1959 [July 2, 1958], No. 21131/58. Class 19. Bristle tufts 17 are clamped in sockets 18 of the stock 10 of a rotatably driven, guttersweeping brush of a road-sweeping machine by the root portion of each tuft being engaged by a clamping member, preferably a grubscrew 19, that presses the root portion of the tuft towards a recess 20 formed in the side wall of the socket opposite the clamping member to cause part of the root portion to be deformed into the recess. The tuft-engaging end of the screw may be flat or conical and each tuft may be partially encased in a rubber sleeve. The sockets are formed in an annular flange 16 integral with and disposed at an angle to the axis of rotation of the stock 10. If the sockets extend through the flange the upper ends of the sockets can be covered by a disc 21 bolted to the top of the stock.
