[Also in Group VIII] In a waistband &c. comprising a core 10 of natural or synthetic rubber within a textile sheath 11, the core and sheath are adhered together at regions closely spaced lengthwise of the band. The adhesive may be arranged in continuous or discontinuous transverse stripes 13 or a series of dots, and is preferably applied to both faces of the core. The sheath may be of inextensible fabric or an interlock or warp-knit fabric with the wales arranged either transversely or longitudinally of the band. The edges 11a, 11b of the sheath may be stuck together in overlapping relationship, or stuck to the core in abutting relationship, or may be spaced apart. In a modification, the core comprises two or more rubber strips in abutting or spaced relationship. In a further modification, the sheath extends beyond one edge of the core. The core and sheath are assembled with the core under tension and the sheath either unstretched or stretched to a less extent than the core. The preformed band is stitched to the garment in stretched condition. In one embodiment the band is superposed on the edge zone of the garment material, whereas in a second embodiment, Fig. 10, the edge of the garment 17 is sandwiched between the band and a cover strip 19.
