[Also in Division B1] A fabric forming a flexible sieve or an endless band filter consists of parallel threads or bands, bonded together at intervals or connected with one another by transverse threads, transverse strips, or perforated foils, or, in the case of perforated bands lying side by side, are sewn or bonded together continuously along their length. The threads or bands may be of metal e.g. bronze, or of synthetic resins e.g. nylon, polyurethanes or polyesters. Adjacent threads or bands may be bonded together to form, a unitary structure by an adhesive, or, in the case of thermoplastic resins, merely by heating. The holes of the sieve are formed by having the threads of varying cross-section along their length (Fig. 3), by having adjacent threads of different configurations (Figs.2, 4 and 6) by using perforated bands (Fig. 5) or by bonding the bands to a perforated foil, (Figs. 7 and 8) which may be of rubber. The entire fabric may be formed of one thread or band wound helically, or may consist of a plurality of threads or bands. In a further embodiment, the sieve consists of a band of woven fabric, wound helically, and sewn continuously along adjacent edges.
