1,027,422. Seaming non-metallic sheet material; laminates. JIFFYTEX PRODUCTS Ltd., and D. C. LONCRAINE. Oct. 13, 1964 [Oct. 15, 1963], No. 40706/63. Headings B5K and B5N. A binding strip comprises a plurality of layers of material superimposed upon and secured to one another, the assembled strip being capable of elastic extension lengthwise of the strip, and at least one of the layers being inextensible in a direction transversely to the length of the strip. The strip comprises two layers 10, 11, the layer 10 being loosely woven cotton webbing and the layer 11 being strong creped paper which is extensible lengthwise but not laterally. The weave of the webbing 10 is shown in Fig. 3. To make the strip, the paper 11 is stretched slightly and the webbing 10 positioned thereover. The two layers are sewn together by one, two or more rows of stitching 12 and the slight tension is then removed from the paper 11. In use, to secure two pieces of carpet together the strip is placed webbing side uppermost on a flat surface and adhesive is applied to the webbing and/or to the marginal portions of the carpet. The edges of carpet are then placed abutting each other centrally along the strip.
