Abstract

1,134,731. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. ROBERTS (SMOOTHEDGE) Ltd. 22 June, 1967 [22 June, 1966], No. 27898/66. Heading B5K. [Also in Division A4] Edges 5, 6 of carpet pieces are retained in abutting relationship and secured to a floor by a seaming tape which consists of a creped paper backing strip 1, a fabric webbing strip 2 secured thereto, and, between these strips spaced spring steel strips 10, having carpet-engaging prongs 11 which project through the webbing, and apertures 12 for passage of tacks to secure the tape to the floor. The strips 10 and the webbing strip are adhered or stitched to the backing strip, the webbing being of rot-proof polyethylene terephthalate woven to be inextensible under transverse tension. In use, the tape is secured to the floor by tacks, the webbing, coated with adhesive and the carpet edges being pressed thereon and impaled on the prongs.
