Abstract

1,016,178. Garment waistbands. QUICK SERVICE TEXTILES Inc. Jan. 23, 1963 [Nov. 30, 1962], No. 31095/64. Divided out of 1,016,177. Heading A3V. A stiffening element for the waist edge of a garment comprises a strip of resilient material having over at least part of its width a transverse curvature, the convex side of which is to be positioned against the garment adjacent the waist edge. Preferably the whole width is a simple curve, Fig. 6; alternatively the curve may extend adjacent the upper edge only or the strip may be of shallow S section. Suggested materials are woven nylon, polyethylene or polypropylene or cotton cloth including heat-settable fibres of nylon etc. or horsehair. Preferably the strip has selvage edges formed by conventional weaving methods, by fusing marginal thermosetting threads or by turning in and pressing a small edge portion. In an alternative form an extruded strip of plastics composition, Fig 7 (not shown), and perforated with holes 36 or elongated transverse slots (not shown) may be used.
