Abstract

1,016,177. Waistbands. QUICK SERVICE TEXTILES INC. Jan. 23, 1963 [Nov. 30, 1962], No. 2959/63. Heading A3V. A waistband includes a stiffening element of resilient but shape-retaining material having throughout its length a transverse curvature, inwardly concave, at least adjacent its upper edge which imparts a corresponding curve to the garment e.g. trousers to which it is secured. As shown, Fig. 1, a waistband includes a stiffening element 15 of perforate, resilient material with an inward curve at 15a. The element 15 and or layer 14 are secured in a hem 12 turned in along the upper edge of the garment. Additional layers 17, 22 and 24 may be stitched to the waistband. Suggested materials for the stiffening element are woven nylon, polythene and polypropylene or cotton cloth including some heat-settable fibres of nylon etc. or horsehair, or perforated moulded plastics material, Fig. 8 (not shown). The curve may be of shallow S- section or a simple curve may extend over the entire width of the element.
