Abstract

1406821 Wearing apparel AUTOMATIC BRAIDING CO (NOTTINGHAM) LTD 15 June 1973 [21 June 1972 10 April 1973] 28932/72 and 17115/73 Heading A3V A band for the waist cuff or ankle of a garment and capable of being stretched elastically from a relaxed condition comprises a core of elastic ribbon material, a cover of flexible material secured to the core, and a draw cord extending lengthwise within the band. The band may comprise two rubber strips 9 with the draw string 10 therebetween, the cover being strips 8 of woven material or non-woven material such as knitted fabric or one of bonded fibres, secured to the strips by adhesive. Alternatively the band may be one of those disclosed in Specification 1279743 but provided with a draw cord. The band may be enclosed by the edge of the garment (14, Figs 2-5, not shown) by apparatus disclosed in Specification 1406822, and the ends of the band sewn together by the joining seam as the article is completed, a loop of the draw cord being pulled through the wall of the band and an opening 16b in the garment turning. The loop is then severed and the cut ends knotted; alternatively if a second opening 16a is available one cut end can be drawn therethrough before knotting or tacking.
