Abstract

Gasoline compositions contain up to 6 c.c. per U.S. gallon of tetraethyl lead, an ethylene dihalide scavenging agent and a boron compound of formula <FORM:0917653/III/1> obtained by reacting 1 mole of butane 1,3-diol with 1 mole of boric acid with removal of 2 moles of water, in an amount sufficient to provide from 0,002 to 0,1% by weight of boron in the gasoline. Specifications 917,651, 917,654 and 917,657 also are referred to.ALSO:An organic boron compound having the formula <FORM:0917653/IV (b)/1> is obtained by reacting 1 mole of butane-1,3-diol with 1 mole of boric acid with removal of 2 moles of water. Alternatively 1 mole of the diol may be reacted with 1/2 mole of boric oxide. An example is given. Specifications 917,651, 917,654 and 917,657 also are referred to.
