Abstract
917,554. Commutating poles and windings; compensating windings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 17, 1959 [Nov. 17, 1958], No. 36931/58. Class 35. In a compound-excited D.C. machine the series-exciting winding of a commutating pole 3 also partly excites the adjacent main pole. The commutating poles are asymmetrically shaped. to provide winding space on one side only. In the form shown, the coils 9 extend across the intermediate main pole 2 between two commutating poles 3, 10, the current flowing in axial conductors 11, 12, 13 providing the appropriate direction of excitation for the various poles. In a modification, not shown, the conductors 12 are carried, instead, through the pole-face slots 20 to provide a compensating winding.
