Abstract

A lubricating grease comprises a lubricating oil, an inorganic gelling agent, an alkali metal borate and the reaction product of a phosphorus sulphide with an olefine of at least 8 carbon atoms. The oil may be a paraffinic, naphthenic or asphaltic mineral oil, an organic phosphate, or a diester; the gelling agent may be an organo-modified clay; the borate may be of lithium, sodium, potassium or caesium, the preferred compound being borax; and the preferred phosphosulphurized product is the reaction product of a bi-cyclic terpene, or a liquid containing such a terpene, e.g. turpentine oil, with P2S5. The compositions may also include lead naphthenates, chlorinated di-aryl and di-aralkyl sulphides, chlorinated waxes or chlorinated rubber, and phenyl-alpha-naphthylamine.
