Abstract

An hydraulic transmission liquid composition consists of (i) a polymer of n-octyl fumarate prepared by a method claimed in the parent Specification (ii) 2-ethyl-hexyl silicate, (iii) a polyalkylmethacrylate or dimethylpolysiloxane, and (iv) a pair of additives which are compatible, one being an antioxidant, the other `anti-wear. The polyalkylmethacrylate preferably has alkyl groups of 6C, but 8-10C alkyl groups are also mentioned. The antioxidants specified are Ortholeum 300 (a mixture of complex organic amines), catechol, pyrogallol and a -naphthol. `Anti-wear' additives specified are ethylene glycol-, isopropyl, or isoamyl ricinoleate, 2-ethylhexyl sebacate Santolube AR (a long chain aliphatic diether: "Santolube" is a Registered Trade Mark), Alox 1669 (a mixture of methyl esters of oxidized petroleum hydrocarbons), Hypol (a mineral oil solution of chlorine, phosphorus and sulphur), Crezol Z5 (a commercial product containing a substantial quantity of lecithin), tricresyl phosphate, dichloronaphthalene and Cereclor 70 (a chlorinated paraffin wax which may include a little CC14; "Cereclor" is a Registered Trade Mark). `Anti-wear' additives are defined as being those, which owing to their chemical structure, are capable of facilitating the slipping on one another of metal parts in relative movement immersed or in contact with an hydraulic liquid composition.ALSO:An hydraulic transmission liquid composition consists of (i) a polymer of n-octyl fumarate prepared by a method claimed in the parent Specification, (ii) 2-ethyl-hexyl silicate, (iii) a polyalkylmethacrylate or dimethylpolysiloxane, and (iv) a pair of additives which are compatable, one being an anti-oxidant, the other an anti-wear additive. The polyalkylmethacrylate preferably has alkyl groups of 6 carbon atoms, but C8-C10 alkyl groups are also mentioned. The anti-oxidants specified are Ortholeum 300 (a mixture of complex organic amines), catechol, pyrog alkol and a -naphthol. Anti-wear additives specified are ethylene glycol-, isopropyl-, or isoamyl-ricinoleate, 2-ethyl-hexyl-sebacate, "Santolube" AR (a long chain aliphatic diether: "Santolube" is a Registered Trade Mark), Alox 1669 (a mixture of methyl esters of oxidized petroleum hydrocarbons), Mypol (a mineral oil solution of chlorine, phosphorus and sulphur), Crezol 25 (a commercial product containing a substantial quantity of lecthin), tricresyl phosphate, dichloronaphthalene, and "Cereclor" 70 (a chlorinated paraffin wax which may include a little CCl4; "Cereclor" is a Registered Trade Mark). Anti-wear additives are defined as being those which, owing to their chemical structure, are capable of facilitating the slipping on one another of metal parts in relative movement immersed or in contact with an hydraulic liquid composition.
