Abstract

A cutting oil comprises a mineral oil, free sulphur and a polyvalent metal salt of a dithiophosphoric acid ester. A chlorinated hydro carbon may also be present. Typical salts are zinc propylhexyl, butylamyl, and didodecyl dithiophosphates, and the chlorinated hydrocarbon is preferably chlorinated paraffin wax having 22-24 carbon atoms and a chlorine content of 35-60% by weight. The mineral oil may contain 1-10% wt. of fatty oil, and other optional additives mentioned are basic and superbasic alkali metal and alkaline earth metal naphthenates, petroleum sulphonates and alkyl salicylates.
