Abstract

A grease comprises a liquid halogenated paraffin wax thickened with 0.1-10 per cent by weight of an N-acyl p-aminophenol or alkyl substituted derivative thereof, of formula: <FORM:0749535/III/1> where R is an alkyl group containing 4-22 carbon atoms and R1 and R2 are hydrogen or alkyl groups containing 1-20 carbon atoms. Phenols referred to are N-palmitoyl N-stearoyl and N arachidoyl-p-aminophenol, N-n-valeroyl-4-amino-3-pentadecyl phenol, N-n-pentanoyl-4-amino-2,6ditertiary butyl phenol and N-n-hexoyl-4-amino-2-hexyl phenol. The halogenated paraffin wax may be a chlorinated wax containing 20-60 per cent by weight of chlorine.
