Abstract
915,262. Hypodermic injection appliances. AVIATION, MINISTER OF. Jan. 29, 1959 [Nov. 1, 1957 (2)], Nos. 34135/57 and 34136/57. Class 81 (2). A hypodermic injection appliance has a needle normally enclosed within a collapsible ampoule and a spring-loaded plunger which, when released, collapses the ampoule so as to drive the needle through the end wall of the capsule and eject the contents. The ampoule has a corrugated side wall 2 and a rigid end cap 3 and the needle 5 is held centrally within it by disc-shaped spacers 4. A drive spring 23, having an seating 9, is normally held compressed by a spring catch 12, the turned-over, upper ends of which are held by a dolly 22 in a cap 17. When the dolly 22 is pressed downwards, this catch is released and the spring 23 drives the end of the ampoule downwards, so that the needle 5 is forced out through a sealing washer 8 into the patient's flesh and the contents of the ampoule are forced through it. To prevent inadvertent release of the spring, a retaining clip 25 is engaged in a groove 24 in the stem of the dolly until the syringe is required for use. The Specification also contains a description of a rechargeable type of syringe and also of a modified release device.
