Abstract

791,700. Hypodermic syringes. EVERETT & CO., Ltd., S. & R. J. Sept. 5, 1956 [Sept. 14, 1955; Oct. 17, 1955; July 16, 1956], Nos. 26318/55, 29549/55 and 21973/56. Class 81 (2). A hypodermic needle is enclosed within a filled syringe cartridge and is pulled through the end closure to its operative position by a connection member attached to the inner end of the needle and extending through or around the closure. As shown, the needle 5 is partially embedded in the closure plug 3 and has a member 6 attached to its inner end between two stops 7, 8. The two sides of the loop 6 pass between the plug 3 and the glass wall of the cartridge, the resilience of the plug ensuring retention of the contents. In order to enable the whole of the contents to be expelled fully, recesses 11, 12 in the closure plug 3 and piston stopper 2 allow these to be pressed close together. In other forms only a single connecting piece is used instead of the loop 6 and the inner end is attached to a cross-piece secured to or bearing on the needle and extending across the bore of the cartridge. The end 13 of the barrel may be curved inwards to prevent displacement of the plug 3 or a suitable stop may be provided on the cartridge holder assembly. The holder also has a hook or other device to which the connection piece 6 is secured during use of the syringe to ensure that the needle is not pushed back through the stopper while being inserted in the patient. Specification 776,768 is referred to.
