Abstract

In a process for the production of hydroxylamine amino-alkylated on the oxygen atom, a hydroxylamine-N-disulphonic acid salt is reacted in an alkaline medium with an ester of an aminoalcohol and an acid, or with a salt of such an ester, and the N-positioned sulpho groups subsequently are split off. The amino group of the ester may be free or partially or completely substituted by alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic groups, or the amino nitrogen may form part of a heterocyclic ring, e.g. a piperidine, morpholine, thiomorpholine or piperazine ring. In an example sodium nitrite is reacted with sodium bisulphite in aqueous solution to obtain a solution of the sodium salt of hydroxylamine-N-disulphonic acid; this solution is then reacted with potassium hydroxide and a solution of b -(diethylamino)ethyl chloride hydrochloride, after which it is made acid and refluxed to remove the sulpho groups, and worked up to obtain O-[b -(diethylamino)ethyl]-hydroxylamine.
