Abstract

3:5-Dioxopyrazolidines of the general formula: <FORM:0844001/IV(b)/1> (wherein R1 represents a C1-6 alkyl radical, and R2 and R3 each represent an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical) are produced by condensing a compound of the general formula: <FORM:0844001/IV(b)/2> with phosgene. Preferably the starting material in a suitable solvent, is first converted into its sodium compound by the action of triphenylmethyl-sodium in absolute ether, and a solution of phosgene in an inert solvent therefor is then added.
