Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0688354/IV (b)/1> where R represents an aryl group, an aralkyl group, a cycloalkyl group or a heterocyclic ring and their preparation by reacting a benzhydryl halide with the corresponding N-substituted piperidinol or with a sodium or potassium derivative thereof or by reacting a benzhydryl alkoxide (or a sodium of potassium derivative thereof) with the corresponding N-substituted 4-halo piperidine. The reaction may be effected in the presence of a tertiary amine containing up to three carbon atoms. Examples are given of the preparation of compounds of the above formula in which R is cyclohexyl and benzyl.
