Abstract

914,223. Gyratory crushers. NYBERG, J. E. Oct. 17, 1961 [Oct. 19, 1960], No. 37260/61. Class 59. A gyratory crusher shaft 30 which supports a crushing head 72 through the medium of yielding members 88, 94, Fig. 1, is driven by a crank or eccentric mechanism 42. The crankpin 42 is arranged to rotate in a roller bearing casing 36 attached to the shaft 30 which is supported in a spherical bearing 66 at its lower end. The crusher head 72, which has a wear jacket 74, is mounted between a spherical portion 78 on the shaft 30 and a sleeve 88 slidable on the shaft. The sleeve 88 has a conical upper surface 84 engaging a corresponding surface 82 on the lower end of the head 72 and is axially and resiliently supported by piles of resilient washers 94 on a collar 96 fixed on the shaft. In operation, the crank 42, which is provided with a balance weight 56, is rotated by a motor 58 to roll the head 72 around the crushing chamber and, upon an uncrushable object entering the chamber and dropping to a point A, the head, guided by the spherical portion 78 of the shaft moves against the sleeve 88 so as to force the latter down on its resilient mounting. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the sleeve 88 has an extension in the form of a tubular piston 104 hydraulically supported in a cylinder 106, and, in the event of the sleeve being displaced, the liquid in the cylinder is forced through a bore 110 in the shaft and conduits 114, 128 against a pressure which restores the sleeve when the uncrushable object leaves. Movement of the sleeve and the resultant increase in hydraulic pressure may be used to operate a warning signal device, stop the crusher motor 58 or lift the head and shaft clear of the chamber casing. The piston extension 104 of Fig. 2 may be replaced by a cylinder arranged to co-operate with a piston secured to the shaft 30 and a jaw clutch may also be provided to prevent unnecessary wear of the faces 82, 84 of the head 72 and sleeve 88.
