Abstract
912,155. Inflatable tents and buildings. FRANKENSTEIN & SONS (MANCHESTER) Ltd., P. Sept. 21, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 23870/60. Class 20 (1). An inflatable building such as a temporary warehouse or exhibition hall has a single thickness canopy wholly supported by internal air pressure the total uplift load being distributed between peripheral anchorages and a plurality of additional anchorages at positions spaced from the periphery and from each other. The canopy shown consists of panels 11 having inverted catenary profiled lateral edges in air tight contact and provided with tethering points 12. As shown a reeded effect is produced with the additional internal tethering points 12 arranged in longitudinal rows and attached to pairs of pickets 15 offset from the vertical plane through the point 12. Drainage is provided by arranging the gullies produced to slope towards one or both ends of the building overlapping flaps 18, 19 being attached to the edges of the panels 11 and being secured together by flexible touch adherent strips 20, 21 which can also be used to secure together the adjacent marginal edges 11a to increase the initial air seal produced by snap links 13. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 8, a separate strip 27 is attached centrally to one panel 11 while one end is attached to the adjacent panel 11 at 30 and the other end is used for tethering points 12. The guy lines 14 may be attached to the margins 11a by triangular sections of balloon netting or by radiating cords.
