Abstract

910,726. Dust extractors. STEED, V. O. May 17, 1961, No. 18042/61. Class 55 (2). A dust extractor comprises an impeller housed in a casing having a central axial inlet, and a pair of axially directed liquid sprays adapted to discharge on to the impeller, one of these sprays being located closely adjacent to the impeller hub and the other being positioned and adapted to provide a wide angle dust wetting spray on to the impeller. The impeller may consist of vanes secured to a backing plate and a central boss, and may be driven either by a motor or by the gas itself. Figs. 1 and 2 are views of an assembly incorporating the extractor, which is shown in detail in Fig. 3. A centrifugal fan impeller 1 has vanes secured to boss 2 and backing plate 3. The central inlet 4 is connected to an inlet duct 5 via a flexible connection 6, which prevents the transmission of vibrations along the duct. Spray 10 is a wide angle spray set back in axial alignment with the fan, and is controlled by valve 16. Spray 11 is positioned closely adjacent to and slightly above the boss 2, and is controlled by valve 17. The fan casing has an internal rubber lining 9. The extractor has a tengential outlet 7 which opens into a large diameter flue 8 or other form of expansion chamber. Inspection covers and sludge drain pipes are provided.
