Abstract

A hood (10) placed over a domestic cooker contains an extract fan (13). An extract assembly (16) fits above the hood and contains a pipe (17) which slips over the fan outlet spigot (14). The other end of the pipe (17) slips into the inlet spigot of a duct (18) leading to atmosphere. The pipe also has a side outlet (19) and a damper (23) which closes either the outlet to atmosphere or the side outlet. The pipe is surrouned by a casing (20) which has a grill (22) allowing air coming from the side opening (19) to flow back into the kitchen. There is an activated carbon filter (21) behind the grill. The assembly gives the owner the choice of exhausting to atmosphere or recycling through the carbon filter.
