Abstract
642,506. Gas turbine plant. DE HAVILLAND ENGINE CO., Ltd., HALFORD, F. B., BRODIE, J. L. P., and GAY, A. R. B. Sept. 15, 1948, No. 24246. [Class 110(iii)] An annular chamber 30 in the casing of a gas turbine rotor 18 is supplied through pipes 29 with air taken at 28 from the compressor delivery. This air passes through an annular jet orifice 31 and impinges upon the turbine rotor near to the blade roots. The air passes outwards into the hot gas stream. In place of the annular jet orifice 31, ten or more spaced jets may be used. Air jets may be applied to both sides of a turbine disc and to one or more discs of a multi-stage turbine. Air from the space 28 is also led by a pipe 32 to the centre of the space between the turbine rotor and a cover plate 33. The bearing at 20 is cooled by oil circulating through pipes 41 from a tank 40 and by air from the compressor which passes out into the space between the turbine rotor and the up-stream cover plate 21. This air is extracted from the compressor at 39 and led through a chamber 38 around the compressor inlet, where it is cooled, and thence by pipe 36 to an air filter 37 before passing to the bearing 20.
