Abstract

909,590. Catch fastenings. CHENEY & SON Ltd., C. W. March 17, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 9387/60. Class 44. A fastener for portable containers such as jewel cases and luggage, comprises a hasp 3 pivoted by means of pin 20 to a plate 1 for attachment to the lid of the container, and keeper 4 for attachment to the main part of the container, the hasp being urged towards engagement with the keeper by means of a coil spring 17 wound on the pin 20, and having one end 18 engaging a lug 21 on the hasp 3. The plate 1 is provided with a projection 7 for engaging an aperture 13 in the keeper 4 when the container is closed, thus ensuring the correct alignment of the parts of the fastener, and the flanges 11 and 16 of members 3 and 4 respectively are so shaped that under the action of spring 17, the hasp 3 automatically engages completely over the keeper 4. A key-operated lock may be provided to prevent unauthorized opening of the fastener, and a slot may be formed in the hasp 3 for engagement over a stud on the plate 1 or on the keeper 4 to indicate that the fastener has functioned effectively.
