Abstract

399,017. Chain &c. fastenings. PARTOS, E., XIIu, N.9, Rakosliget, Hungary. Sept. 16, 1932, No. 25851. [Class 44.] A locking-device for securing trunks, suitcases, bags, &c. against theft comprises a lock face-plate 1, Fig. 1, formed with an additional aperture 12 through which a chain or the like 14 passes freely,to the interior of the receptacle with stop means to prevent complete withdrawal on the inner end, a locking member 16 on the outer end of the chain having a part 16a adapted to enter a slot 8 in the plate for engagement by the bolt 3 of the lock, means consisting of a hinged hasp member 9 having a part 11 engageable by the bolt of the lock being provided for covering the apertures when the chain is not in use. Fig. 3 shows a modified construction in which the locking member 20 itself serves to cover the apertures, a lug 20d engaging under a bridge-piece 1a, and the bow 20a, engageable by the lock bolt, taking into the slot 8, the hinged hasp being dispensed with. The chain may be passed around the receptacle to hold it closed, or around a fixed object, or may be attached by means of the locking member to a second receptacle equipped with a similar lock face-plate. The chain may be arranged to be wound on a spring-controlled bobbin suitably disposed in a casing or compartment, and the bobbin may be provided with a mechanical bell which comes into action when the chain runs back.
