Abstract

An alloy for use in the manufacture of electric contacts consists of a minor proportion of Cd, from 4X10-3 to 18X10-3% by weight of Al and/or Si and the balance Ag. The alloy is intern ally oxidized to form substantially spherical nodules of cadmium oxide uniformly dispersed in a silver matrix. A preferred alloy of Cd 10-15%, Al and/or Si 0.005-0.012%, Ag the balance, is drawn into wire which is internally oxidized. The wire is then cold drawn twice with an intermediate anneal and finally cold headed into rivet form.
