Abstract
906,910. Hot-water supply systems. HOARE, C. H. Oct. 10, 1960 [July 11, 1959], No. 23896/59. Class 64 (1). In a hot-water tank for use in a domestic supply system, having flow and return connections a and a<SP>1</SP> from and to a boiler (not shown), a baffle B in the form of an inverted truncated semi-cone is attached to one wall of the tank vertically above the opening of the flow pipe a, the hot-water draw-off pipe a<SP>2</SP> opening into the space enclosed by the baffle and the latter being open at its upper end and closed at its lower end by a plate b having perforations b<SP>1</SP>. Hot water entering the tank from the boiler rises through the baffle to the upper layers of storage water. In the event of failure of the coldwater supply, water is drawn off from the tank until the level falls to the top of the baffle and thereafter water flows into the baffle through the perforations b<SP>1</SP> to be drawn off through the pipe a<SP>2</SP> until the level drops to the draw-off point. In a modification, Fig. 5, the baffle comprises two truncated cones B and B1, one inverted, joined at their narrowest parts by a perforated plate through which the upper end of the draw-off pipe a<SP>2</SP> projects. The flow pipe a is disposed below the cone B1. If the supply of cold water supplied to the cylinder A1 from a cistern C fails, hot water can still be drawn off through the pipe a<SP>2</SP> flowing thereto firstly down through the cone B and then upwardly through the cone B1. Normally and when no hot water is being drawn off the hot water from the boiler entering the cylinder through the pipe a flows directly to the upper part of the cylinder through the baffle cones. In a further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the baffle consists of an openended or perforated tube surrounding the upper end of and extending above the draw-off pipe.
