Abstract

A case for a thin walled polyethylene container holding, for example, five gallons comprises the carton shown in Fig. 9 (in the pouring condition) and a liner 25, Fig. 2, therefor, as shown in Fig. 2. The portion 18 of the front wall 10 lies against an inclined wall of the container and portions 21, 22 are bent forward about the fold line 42 to form a square corner to the case which facilitates stacking. The blank for the carton is shown in Fig. 6 and has handholds 13 in two sides and a handhold 14 in the base for use during pouring. In another embodiment, a handhole is provided in the portion 21. A cutout 27 accommodates the spout 5 of the container. An opening 34 in portion 22 facilitates unfolding of the square comer to the pouring position shown in Fig. 9. Tabs 39 on side flaps 24 reinforce the front of the carton adjacent the fold line 19; in a modification these tabs are not provided. The carton is secured for transit by adhesive tape. The liner which may be of corrugated board, comprises main wall portions and a flap 29 which lies against the inclined wall 2 of the container and locates around the spout and stopper 6. Triangular tabs 28 are inserted between the walls of the liner and the inner walls of the carton.
