Abstract

904,162. Haymaking machines. PURSER, A. H. Aug. 7, 1959 [Aug. 7, 1958], No- 25297/58. Class 6(3). A method of tedding cut hay comprises sucking the crop up from the ground, stirring it, and spreading it laterally while it is airborne. A machine for performing the method consists of a horizontal disc 32, approximately 3 feet in diameter, arranged in a frame 10 mounted at the front on tractor hitchlinks 20 and rearwardly on a castor 13. The disc has cup-shaped projections 34 on its undersurface which stir the lifted crop and eject it laterally ; the cups may be replaced by blunt tines. The disc is of plywood faced on both sides with aluminium sheet, and is carried by rubber bushes 31 bolted to a smaller disc 28 at the bottom end of a vertical shaft 24 driven by level gearing 45 from the tractor. A cylindrical member 27 on the bottom of the shaft 24 has a vertical wall 39 which abuts a central aperture in the disc 32. In a modification the disc 32 has vanes to produce the suction and a further, foraminous, disc spaced below it to carry the stirring members. A skid may replace the castor wheel 13.
